... what Worldcritic was trying to say, is that a little more information could have been forthcoming.
Anyone reading the report on the Indie Music Awards results might be put off with the (relatively) vague suggestion that the band simply "sound" Irish.
With the rich heritage that The McDades have, as far as genre mixing and influences go, even just an additional line that informed there is more than just "Irish"-sounding music to the band might pique reader interest.

Spelling mistakes? What spelling mistakes. Seems like your grasping at straws with that one, or perhaps you don't have a dictionary or like your IMA reviews haven't taken the time to look things up! The only details you give regarding The Mcdades is that they are playing IRISH music, which is not at all the case. You say The McDades are "everything you would ever imagine Irish music to be" and that people should "Listen only if you enjoy conventional Irish music (think Riverdance)" (Riverdance by the way is also from Ireland). Do you know what conventional Irish music is? Honestly, you missed the mark with this one.

I checked out the mcdades myspace and they have a pretty mixed sound, really seems like world music to me. Carmen's response seems very defensive and worldcritic is VERY critical. How many songs did you listen to before writing your reviews? The Independent Music Awards only have one song by each artist and the one for The McDades is super Celtic sounding. Carmen is right with her comments on that tune but when you see their myspace you see that they are really different.

It seems that I'm not going to win on this one, and I'm not going to disagree with you. However, I would like to say that I spent quite some time listening to sample tracks from various sources (Itunes and The McDades Website) before I wrote what I did. I would also like to clarify that I would never assess a band based upon one song. That seems silly and it's just not my style.

Wow. Here's a bit more of news regarding this band.
Canada - The McDades won the award for Best Roots and Traditional Album of the Year (Group) in the 2007 Juno Awards, for their CD Bloom. They are particularly humbled by the sterling group of nominees in this category, from The Wailin Jennys and The Be Good Tanyas to The Duhks and Blackie and the Rodeo Kings. The McDades accomplished this as the only independent ensemble in that category. The group thanked the academy and all the people who volunteer their time for adjudication.
Perhaps it was prophetic that The McDades titled their latest CD Bloom. Though they are still young, they all have been making music for many years. As an ensemble, their blossoming with this 2nd CD was apparent, as writers, as players, and in the sense that this ensemble has birthed their own sound.
Punching through the walls of tradition, The McDades Celtic-rooted music fuses the spontaneity of jazz improvisation and infectious global rhythms. At the heart of the group are siblings Shannon, Solon and Jeremiah, who have been performing together since childhood. Joining them are percussionist Francois Taillefer, of Montreal, where Solon and Jeremiah attended McGill, and newest member, guitarist Andy Hillhouse, of Mad Pudding and Musica Intima.
Last fall The McDades received 2 Canadian Folk Music Awards, for Best World Album and Best World Group, out of 4 nominations. The international Independent Music Awards voted Bloom as Best World Traditional Album. And on November 21st, The McDades were given a Performance Award by the city of Edmonton as a part of the city's Salute To Excellence program.
The McDades are just back from playing Celtic Connections in Glasgow, Germany and Switzerland. This year's festival bookings already include Festival Internacional de las Culturas in Mexico City in April and the Shetland Folk Festival in the UK in May.
Bloom is recorded for their label, Radio Free Records, and distributed by Fusion III.
