» samrawlins - Why indie music is for you! I first realized why independent, perhaps strange, and often unique music is for everyone while analyzing Juice / Smoothie stores. Stay with me here, it makes complete sense. I love going to my local (well, alright, its a chain) juice and smoothie stop (Jamba Juice) for a great taste. My favorite was the Strawberry Tsunami (which has since changed to the Kona Surfrider or something due to recent events). It was this super-tangy strawberry drink made with lime sorbet, strawberries, and other goodness. But it was only a seasonal flavor. My favorite flavor was apparently not a popular flavor with everyone else! I also remember Jamba Juice coming to our swim meets with coolers filled with only three flavors. What were these three flavors? The three blandest flavors the store could find. Why? Because they were nothing strange or risky. Everyone could somewhat enjoy these three flavors. They may have not been anyone's favorites, but everyone could stomache them. This is the same for music. Most people can enjoy popular music (this is by definition). But often times, if you look off the beaten path, you will find music that you like even more than the stuff meant for everyone. If you look outside McDonalds, you can find burger joints that have a wild sauce that you absolutely love. If you look outside the grocery store for a good novel, you will find something specific to your interests. The very same concept holds in music. There is going to be a sound that just strikes a nerve for you. And that sound is probably not in the Top 40 right now. It's probably in the Top 1,000, or Top 10,000, IE: Indie Music. Search around, share music, talk to your friends, and you will find that which makes your heart sing. -- posted by samrawlins
