As the line-up for this year's SxSW Festival continues to impress, Los Angeles indie funk sextuplets No More Kings announce their appearance on the Purevolume stage

  • Genre: Indie / funk / rock
  • Sounds Like: Karate Kid meets Knight Rider via Jamiroquai's rockier alter-ego
  • Home: Los Angeles
  • No More Kings

One thing that can't be denied about indie music - just when you think you've got the genre nailed, along comes a band who defy convention and throw it all out the window. Say hello to No More Kings.

Currently on a major promotional push with their self-titled debut album, No More Kings are attracting a huge buzz at the moment. This is in no small way thanks to their infectious indie mixed with funk, and just the slightest touch of soul, bringing a whole new sound to the appreciative masses. The fun is compounded in the promo video for their song Sweep The Leg, reuniting much of the cast of the original Karate Kid movie to tell the movie from the antagonist's point of view.

Now it's been announced that, as well as the current promotional tour throughout the US, No More Kings are to appear at this year's SxSW festival, playing on the Purevolume stage on Wednesday March 14th. If you're going along there this year, this is a band you really should make time to see. A review of their debut album will appear on Suite101 shortly.
