Hailed quite rightly as equal to the American SXSW Festival held in Texas, this year's NXNE Festival in Toronto promises some big names as well as some indie music gems.
With this year's North By Northeast Festival, both independent music and film fans alike have a lot to look forward to. Showcasing the best in these 2 arts media, the festival is now strongly established both in Canada and worldwide as an excellent meeting place for both sound and vision.
With 450 bands performing on 30 stages over the course of 3 days and nights, the music lovers of Toronto are really spoiled for choice this year. As well as the local acts that receive a larger stage to share their music, there are some great international bands flying in for the event, as well as film premieres to look forward to. Some of the highlights this year include:
Also making an appearance this year are the likes of Soundtrack Of Our Lives, Dinosaur Jr., Peaches and Junior Boys, just to reinforce the eclectic nature of this cool festival. Throw in interviews with rock legend Rob Halford of Judas Priest, and it promises to be an entertaining 72 hours plus.
It's not just the music side that's well catered to this year, either – there are some excellent films and documentaries receiving their premieres at this year's NXNE. These include:
With this being just a small part of what festival goers to this year's NXNE can expect, it promises to be a wild 3 days of debauched fun and downright devilry. As well as the music and film side of things, there are also a whole host of side events and guest speakers that play a unique role in the festival calendar. As always, Suite101 will be there to bring you a report of all the best parts (and then some!) of this year's event.
