The Long Island band Brand New's most recent album Daisy has listeners longing for more.
The 4th and maybe most anticipated album from Long Island band Brand New entitled Daisy (Interscope Records) is not quite what most fans would expect from the incorrectly thought of "emo" band. A Darker Message Littered with the same previous messages (losing friends, feeling empty, etc) singer Jesse Lacey crones one minute with raw emotional anger, then softly sings the next forcing the listener to take notice and feel his pain. Though not as heartbroken as he was in prior albums such as God and The Devil Are Raging Inside of Me (2006), Lacey has found a way to transfer his distraught feelings into something a bit more angry. The Switch Off Lacey also allowed fellow band mate Vinnie Accardi to write most of the lyrics on Daisy which is a bit more noticeable for a full-fledged Brand New fan. Although there is no real problem with Accardi's style, the lyrics are not quite as poetic as Lacey's. Fans will notice the change in Brand New throughout the entire album, this is not necessarily a terrible thing. The tendency to excite one moment, to take what could be simple and make it brilliant still remains in the music. Going from one extreme to the next, one range of heavy guitar into a sudden swoop of completely raw and unabridged emotion seems to remind the listener despite the fact that Brand New is growing and developing they haven't quite changed completely. (This is reassuring for most hard-core Brand New fans). Listen on RepeatAlthough not exactly the same band they were several years ago Brand New continue to surprise and amaze fans with their ever-growing, and ever-changing style. Unlike most bands in their genre they continue to make music they way they want to make it instead of what is popular at the moment. Daisy is different, a musical stretch that even a non Brand New fan could get lost in. Daisy continues to awe on every listen, chalk full of songs that get stuck in your head, or that you don't mind keeping on repeat. After the first few minutes the listener will be hooked throughout it's entirety, in turn leaving the listener longing, almost begging, for more. With some rumors about the "end" of Brand New it would be quite unfortunate for the band to get out of the race while they are by far in the lead.
