Brand New recently played at First Avenue in Minneapolis Minnesota taking the crowd on a wild, yet satisfying ride.
Long Island band Brand New's recent concert at First Avenue in Minneapolis Minnesota welded a sold out show which was no real surprise. With Brand New's recently released album Daisy only a month ago they kicked off their U.S. tour this October. With a band like Brand New it is not quite sure what the audience should expect -except for an all around incredible show that pulls out all the stops of an emotional roller coaster ride. This tour wasn't any different proving that Brand New never ceases to amaze. A Full Burst of Raw Energy from Brand New Waiting through the first act is always tough to do when anticipating Brand New's arrival to the stage and Sunday's show wasn't any different. Although the first act, a band called Sybris from Chicago Illinois, were intriguing, they soon lost their luster. Manchester Orchestra however, the Atlanta Georgia band, took over the crowd with singer Andy Hull captivating the audience with tunes like Mean Everything to Nothing, and the understandably popular I've Got Friends. But, it was Brand New's arrival to the small stage that set the crowd into motion. The sea of people on the floor tossed about like an uneasy ocean their voices all lifted to sing along with vocalist Jesse Lacey as he sang the band's first song You Won't Know. Littering the show with a variety of songs off their previous albums perhaps the most surprising was the not so often played No Seatbelt Song off of 2001's Your Favorite Weapon.Brand New knew to give the crowd what they wanted by playing such tunes as Yeah I Believe You But My Tommy Gun Don't, Luca, Jaw's Theme Swimming, and The Archer's Bows Have Broken which the crowd seemingly adored. Songs off of Brand New's latest CD Daisy were both anticipated as well as greatly received by the anxious crowd. Brand New brought raw energy and excitement to the stage and their was not an unhappy face in the small venue. Although songs like Vices and You Stole were fun the overall best song of the evening had to be Sink. As drummer Brian Lane and another unknown drummer pounded away, and Lacey's raw vocals ripped the venue in two the outcome was quite powerful. A Happy EndingAll in all Brand New is the kind of band that can make an audience wavier in excitement, bounce with full- raw energy, and bring them to tears within an hour or so time span. Despite the fact that Lacey didn't have quite too much to say to the crowd whenever he spoke they would stop to listen, and laugh as he would say something rather amusing. As Lacey started the final song, a very fitting Play Crack The Sky Andy Hull from Manchester Orchestra joined him making the venue flood with emotion. Lacey thanked the crowd and walked away without an encore, and even though the crowd had hoped they would play forever we had wanted to say "No Jesse, thank you."
