Two years ago Kate Nash was a virtual unknown. Now, she sits at the top of the indie pop charts as the crass little queen of your indie dreams.

London born Nash has been interested in music since childhood and despite her rejection from The Bristol Old Vic Theater School, she decided to pursue a career in music. After the rejection, Nash suffered an accident that kept her home for quite some time and it was during this time that the little songbird got her wings.

Nash decided to start booking local gigs to showcase her music. The response to her music was good enough that she decided to upload some of it to the up and coming networking site, MySpace.com. The rest was history.

Moshi Moshi Records

In 2007, Nash's debut single, "Caroline's A Victim," was released through Moshi Moshi records. The initial release was limited to 1,000 copies and was only available on 7' vinyl. After Nash sold out, another 1,000 were printed due to extreme demand and they proceeded to sell out as well. A music video for the single was recorded and aired on MTV2. This was the beginning of Nash's indie rock success.

Of course, with success, comes ridicule and her debut single was mocked and parodied. The focal point of the criticism was the fact that she sings with a cockney accent. Though, what listeners fail to realize is that there is no more appropriate accent to sing the crass in-your-face Kate Nash lyrics.

Crass Kate Nash

Perhaps the most recognizable of Nash's songs, Merry Happy, is a classic example of the spirit that Nash's music embodies. The song begins with powerful staccato vocals and direct lines like: "Watching me like you never watched no one/ don't tell me that you didn't try to check out my bum/ 'cause I know that you did 'cause your friend told me that you liked it."

Nash's debut album, Made of Bricks, showcases Nash's strong vocals and unique piano skills. Her infections poppy sound is fueled by her interesting accent and persona. It is a must-listen for any indie pop enthusiast.

Her pop-laden vocals and peppy performances drove audiences wild. Kate Nash represents the birth of a new indie dynasty, one where cheeky humor and cockney attitude reign supreme. She is a "normal" girl taking a risk on the indie world. Looking at her makes people think "the girl next door" and then she opens up her mouth and surprises audiences with her youthful exuberance and talent. Her guitar work, piano playing and lyricism are sure to keep audiences alive and guessing for some time.
